Inside the mind of Paul Warne: Bolton scout, Paul Hurst call and keeping Derby County calm

Derby County are just four points away from making a return to the Championship and will hope to get a major part of the job done when they face Cambridge United this weekend.

The Rams were given an unexpected gift in midweek as Bolton drew at home to Shrewsbury which has enhanced the club’s promotion prospects with the club now rated 1/50 to seal a return to the second tier.

But there is still a job to be done as the Rams seek a magical ending to the season and Paul Warne held his press conference at Moor Farm this morning. Here’s what he had to say as his side prepare for the trip to the Abbey Stadium.

Calmness personified

With four points needed to guarantee a return to the Championship you could have forgiven Paul Warne for feeling the pressure given what’s at stake. But Derby County’s head coach cut a relaxed figure when he spoke at Moor Farm today as he remained true to one of his principles.

Don’t get too high, don’t get too low has always been his mantra since moving into football management, something which has served him well in what has been a hugely successful career. So any Bolton or Peterborough fans expecting a few jitters will no doubt be disappointed. Warne has won three promotions before at Rotherham so knows exactly how to deal with intense situations.
