Leicester eye Gourna-Douath to replace Ndidi

Leicester City have identified RB Salzburg’s Lucas Gourna-Douath as the ideal replacement for Wilfred Ndidi as the Championship club gear up for a potential transition without the Nigerian midfielder next season, PUNCH Sports Extra reports.

According to jeunesfooteux.com, a French website, Leicester City manager Enzo Maresca and his coaching team are looking to replace Ndidi, whose deal with the club expires in the summer, and he’s among the six players at the King Power Stadium not expected to renew their contracts.

The report stated that Gourna-Douath, 20, who is valued at over €20m by Salzburg, would be interested in a move to England should Leicester secure promotion to the Premier League.

“Gourna-Douath wouldn’t hesitate to depart Salzburg for a chance to progress,” the report read.

“He’s particularly intrigued if Leicester City secure promotion to the Premier League.”

Meanwhile, Ndidi is attracting interest from various European clubs, including Juventus, Barcelona, Atletico Madrid, Newcastle, Wolves and Tottenham Hotspur.

He arrived at Leicester City from Belgian club Genk in 2017, amassing 269 appearances across all competitions. This season, he has scored four goals and rendered six assists in 32 matches.

Ndidi’s anticipated 270th appearance for the Foxes will be against West Brom at the King Power Stadium, an English Championship fixture on Saturday.

Leicester are second position in the Championship table with 88 points from 42 games, just one point adrift of leaders Ipswich Town, who have played a game more.
