Live updates as Cambridge trains delayed by signalling fault

A signalling fault at Cambridge is causing delays on the railways today (Friday, April 19). Disruption is expected until further notice, according to Greater Anglia.

A Greater Anglia spokesperson said the signalling fault is affecting some trains and platforms. A response team is on site investigating the fault.




They added: “We can continue to run trains, but some trains may be delayed by the problem. This also affects trains leaving the depot and entering service for this morning.”


Routes affected include trains to and from Ely, Cambridge North, and London Liverpool Street, as well as Norwich, Ipswich, and Stansted Airport. CrossCountry and Great Northern routes are also affected.

Delays up to 20 minutes

Some services affected by the signalling fault at Cambridge are facing delays of up to 20 minutes.

For example, the 07:42 Cambridge to Ipswich due 09:02 is being delayed between Cambridge and Dullingham and is now expected to be 20 minutes late.

Delays currently range from about two minutes to 20 minutes, according to Greater Anglia.

Greater Anglia has released a list of services affected by delays caused by a signalling fault on Friday morning.

These include:

  • Ely / Cambridge North / Cambridge – London Liverpool Street
  • Cambridge – Ipswich
  • Norwich – Cambridge / Stansted Airport
  • CrossCountry routes
  • Great Northern routes

Trains delayed by signalling fault

Trains to and from Cambridge have been delayed by a signalling fault this morning (Friday, April 19).

Disruption is expected until further notice.

A Greater Anglia spokesperson said:

Network Rail have informed us of a fault with the signalling system at Cambridge which is affecting some trains and platforms. A response team is currently on site investigating.

We can continue to run trains, but some trains may be delayed by the problem. This also affects trains leaving the depot and entering service for this morning.
