Phil Foden has surprise view on Jurgen Klopp leaving Liverpool that fans might not expect

The City star might have surprised some supporters.

Phil Foden has shared his opinion on Jurgen Klopp leaving Liverpool, and fans might find it rather surprising.

Manchester City and Liverpool have developed an epic Premier League rivalry in recent years, but things will look a little different next time the two sides meet.

That’s because Jurgen Klopp won’t be in the dugout. Back in January the German coach made the shock announcement that he will leave Liverpool at the end of the season, nine years after he took charge at Anfield.

Liverpool are yet to appoint Klopp’s successor, with recent reports that Ruben Amorim has agreed to take the job denied by the Sporting CP manager.

Whoever does success Klopp at Anfield will have a huge task on their hands.

The German turned an underperforming side into one that went toe-to-toe with Pep Guardiola’s City in two Premier League title races, won the Champions League and one league crown. He could end up delivering another in his final match in the dugout.

Despite the rivalry that has developed between City and Liverpool in recent times, Guardiola has always been keen to praise Klopp and credit him with pushing his side to be even better.

Now it turns out that City star Phil Foden has a huge amount of respect for the Liverpool boss as well.

While plenty of City fans will be glad to see the back of Klopp, the same cannot be said of the 23-year-old attacking midfielder.

“It’s a shame that Jurgen Klopp is leaving,” Foden said during an interview with Daily Mail+.

“He’s been brilliant. To face his team isn’t nice but I think he is good for the game. He has changed Liverpool and it will be sad to see him go. I always want to play against the best.”

With the title race potentially going down to the final day, Foden might not have the same opinion if Klopp and Liverpool prevent City from winning a record-breaking fourth Premier League title in a row.
