Portsmouth striker Kusini Yengi wants long-term Fratton Park stay

Portsmouth striker Kusini Yengi has said he is in it for the long haul at Fratton Park.

Portsmouth handed the attacker a two-year deal last summer with the option of a further 12 months.

Yengi, 25, has helped John Mousinho’s side gain promotion from League One in his first year in England.

He wants to stay with the Hampshire outfit on a long-term basis and has said, as per a report by The News: “Of course. I love this club and it’s been an amazing season. Everyone’s welcomed me in so well, and I think I can still learn a lot and improve as a player.

“Playing in the Championship next season is something I’m really looking forward to. Championship player sounds good – but Premier League would be even better. We’ll go for it next year!.”

Portsmouth man eyeing longer stay

Portsmouth landed Yengi last July to bolster their attacking options and he arrived as an unknown quantity from Western Sydney Wanderers.

He has adapted well to life in the Football League and has scored 12 goals in all competitions in this campaign, eight of which have come in the league.

The Australia international, who has six caps under his belt so far, will have the chance to test himself in the Championship.

He started his senior career at Adelaide United and went on to play 28 games for the A-League outfit as a youngster, chipping in with six goals.

Yengi then spent last year with Western Sydney Wanderers and found the four times for the New South Wales club before leaving Down Under for a new start at Portsmouth.

Mousinho’s side officially booked their place at the second tier table on Tuesday after they beat Barnsley 3-2 at home.

They still have two fixtures left to play this term as Derby County and Bolton Wanderers battle it out to join them.

Pompey face mid-table Wigan Athletic this weekend before they face an away trip to play-off chasing Lincoln City on the final day.
