Bullocks (1070) and heifers (760) cashed in at 300.97p per kg and 287.27p respectively at United Auctions‘ weekly store cattle sale.

Limousin crosses led the pence per kg section at 351.20p for a 430kg bullock from Wester Kinloch, and to 404.0p for a 401kg heifer from Mains of Throsk.

An 651kg Aberdeen Angus cross bullock from High Unthank, realised £1930, whilst another of the same breed weighing 660kg made £1790 for Kininmonth.

Young bulls (47) averaged 263.23p and sold to 299.30p for a 294kg Simmental cross from South Glen and to £1680 for a 650kg Aberdeen Angus cross from Muirhouses.

The firm also sold 1547 store sheep and breeding sheep, where Mule hoggs peaked at £170 for Ceither Gaoithe.

A larger entry of 614 store cattle was forward for Harrison and Hetherington’s weekly sale, where a Limousin cross heifer realised £2200 for Messrs Ewing, Dumbretton, Annan.

Steers peaked at £2000 from Messrs Fisher, Low Milton, Newton Stewart for Limousin crosses.

The inaugural spring stampede sale of weaned cattle, witnessed a top call of £1940 for a pure Charolais bull from Messrs Goldie, Greenfields.

Bullocks sold to £1660 for British Blues from Ali Dodd, Tundergarth Mains, whilst heifers made £1400 for Limousins from Messrs Armstrong, Cockermouth.

An entry of 422 calves was also forward with trade reaching £630 for a British Blue bull from Messrs Wilson, Wood Farm, Thursby.

Heifers sold to £580 for British Blues from Smalmstown.

A strong entry of 300 breeding sheep reached £138 per life for a pair of Texel gimmers with single Beltex lambs from Caleb Todhunter, Greyrigg House, Wigton.

Aged ewes with lambs peaked at £131 per life from Neil Comish, Thornby Road, Wigton, with the same home topping the hoggs with lambs at £130 per life.

A mixed show of store hoggs topped at £128 for a pair of Cheviots from S Hoodless, Highfield.

Ayr

Bullocks led the way at Craig Wilson’s store cattle sale, with a top call of £1990 paid for a pair of Limousins from North Waterland, and to 353p per kg for Charolais from Chapelton.

Limousins led the heifer trade at £1880 for Stoopshill, and to 330p for Glanderston.

Bullocks (266) and heifers (263) averaged 296.88p and 283.6p respectively.

A small offering of breeding sheep sold well, with ewes with lambs making £124 a life from M Connell, Balig.

On Tuesday, the firm sold four dairy cattle to a top of £2450 for a fresh calved Holstein Friesian heifer from Messrs Steel, Ditton.

A large show of 127 calves and stirks peaked at £1220 for an Aberdeen Angus cross heifer stirk from Messrs Becket, Meikle Auchengree, whilst the same breed topped the bullocks at £1060 for Messrs Livingston, Acholter.

Calves peaked at £550 for a British Blue cross bull from Messrs Paterson, Barward, with Simmental cross heifers from Kaimhill Farming, making £540.

A 360kg Limousin cross from Meikle Geddes, Nairn, led the heifers at 375p, whilst a 668kg British Blue cross from Meikle Geddes, Nairn, peaked at £2200.

Aberdeen-Angus bullocks (62) and heifers (44) averaged 298.1p and 270.8p respectively.

Among the organic cattle, it was Charolais crosses from Beafield, Sanday, that were in demand, having led the heifer trade at 328.2p and to £1760, as well as selling bullocks to 370.8p.

A 632kg Hereford cross bullock from Mosshead Aquithie, Kemnay, made £1760.

A very mixed show of store cattle was forward for Caledonian Marts‘ sale, where bullocks and heifers averaged 287p per kg and 275p respectively.

Limousins from M Campbell, Glenstockadale, Leswalt, led the pence per kg sections with bullocks and heifers reaching 416p and 328p respectively.

Among the per head section a top of £1800 was paid for Limousin bullocks from Lacesston Muir, Cupar, Fife, with the same home topping the heifers at £1690 for Charolais.

Aberdeen Angus crosses secured the top prices at United Auctions‘ sale of store cattle, with bullocks from D McGregor, Gartacharra, making £1735, whilst heifers from Messrs Archibald, Craigens, secured £1500.

Bullocks also sold to 335p per kg for Charolais crosses from Messrs Macmillan, Ballimartin, to average 308.77p (+13.77p on the year) and heifers attained 360p again for Aberdeen Angus crosses from Messrs Archibald, Craigens, to cash in at 292.29p (+7.04p).

Bullocks sold to £1710 for a 626kg Limousin cross from Messrs Brown, East Gartmillan, and to 372.8p for a 346kg British Blue from Messrs Comrie, Stonebyres Mains.

A 544kg Limousin from Messrs Whitelaw, Rigghead, led the heifers at £1800, whilst a 352kg Charolais cross from Messrs Haddow, Lawriesmuir, made 369.3p for a 352kg Charolais x from Messrs Haddow, Lawriesmuir Farm, to average 276p.
