Two dead, seven missing as boat capsizes in Mahanadi river in Odisha’s Jharsudga district | India News

New Delhi: Two people lost their lives after a wooden boat capsized in the Mahanadi River near Lakhanpur, situated in the Jharsuguda district. The chief minister’s office has confirmed the incident, noting that the casualties could potentially increase as seven people, including women and children, remain missing. Efforts for rescue are currently underway.

Rescue op underway

Five expert SCUBA divers, along with two underwater search cameras, were being airlifted from Bhubaneswar to Jharsuguda to augment the search efforts. Additionally, rescue teams from Bhatli, Bargarh, Lakhanpur and Sambalpur are en route to assist. Coordination of these operations is being handled by the State Fire Control Room, according to government authorities.
