Youth dies after being stabbed 16 times over petty issue

Kendrapara, Apr 19: In a horrific incident, a youth was killed after being stabbed 16 times as he refused to give betel (Pan) in Balarampur locality of Odisha’s Kendrapara district.

The deceased has been identified as Akshaya Kumar Khatua (35), a resident of Saranga village under Sadar police limits in the district.

As per reports, Akshaya, who works as an air conditioner mechanic, was preparing betel for his consumption at a betel shop when the accused identified as Aditya Prasad Behera of Chandia Palei village asked him for some betel.

Akshaya refused to give betel as he did not know the accused. Thereafter, a heated exchange of words ensued between the two over this issue. It later took an ugly turn when Aditya, in a fit of rage, allegedly attacked Akshaya with a knife and stabbed him around 16 times mercilessly.

Later, some locals rescued Akshaya from a pool of blood and rushed him to the District Headquarters Hospital (DHH) in Kendrapara town where he succumbed to the injuries during treatment.

Upon getting the information, Town police arrived at the spot and detained Aditya PS for questioning. The cops have also seized the deceased’s body and sent it for post-mortem.

A case has been registered in this connection and further investigation into the matter is underway, said the police.
